UVa professor Dr. Brantly Womack successfully delivered a speech at the School of Public Policy and Management at Tsinghua University on June 8th, 2014. This was a joint effort between our UVa community and Tsinghua where the host was Prof. Zhiyuan Cui, a renown scholar on political economics. It's interesting to point out that both professors were PhD students of 邹镋 at the University of Chicago.
There were over thirty participants including the dean, vice dean and some faculty of the School of Public Policy and Management, more than ten students from the school, two UChicago Club members and eleven UVa club members.
The event started off by Prof. Womack giving a forty minutes introduction on his recent work on the theory of Asymmetric triangles in international relations. Prof. Cui went on to give some comments; he also drew connections between UVa and Tsinghua, specifically mentioning the 'origin' of the old auditorium and lawn of Tsinghua. Then it opened for questions from the audience who had asked a wide range of questions touching many aspects in world politics, international relations, trade, economics, and much more. I am delight to point out that the majority of the questions came from our club members instead of students from Tsinghua, although I am related to both. :)In the end, Prof. Cui commented on Prof. Womack's concluding remarks by projecting a bright future of these two institutions collaborating in more dimensions
